LEIPZIG RED VEGAN WINE BLEND GRAND MASTER BORDEAUX 2015
From the 1890s to 1963 spectacular wines were created on the Estate, wines that even the British Royalty enjoyed during their visit to South Africa after World War 2. They sipped on a luxurious white blend called “The White Leipzig”.
The name, Leipzig, is from the German “city of music”, where the forefathers of this estate stem from. Originally, Mrs Alida Smit, who was born on the neighbouring farm, bought the section of land that is now known as Leipzig. Today, the farm is run by Alida Bester, who is the youngest daughter of Alida and Francois Smit. Alida Bester, along with her husband, Vian, maintain a truly lovely wine venue. We had the pleasure of meeting Vian, who explained the history of the farm and their wines while we tasted them.
The “Grand Master” of Leipzig’s red wine blends is a combination of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 9% Malbec.

Grapes harvested on Fransmanskraal Farm, Stellenbosch. Carefully handpicked grapes, sourced from the best vineyards provide a wonderful raw product to work with. Maturing in French Oak barrels for 9 months and further bottle storing for 12 months ensures a truly masterful wine.
Alcohol: 14%; Residual Sugar: 3.5 g/l; PH: 3.52; Total Acid: 6.1 g/l
Abundant flavor of blackcurrant and dark plums on the nose and palate.
Further bottle ageing will only improve this wine, but it may be just as easily enjoyed upon purchase.
